Biography
Growing up in both China and the U.S., I saw the great disparities in health care around the world. However, it wasn’t until I went to rural China and heard the stories of the villagers there that I realized the extent of the need for health care in rural areas. At the same time, I fell in love with the children there who, despite growing up in homes of dirt and clay and taking on so many responsibilities in the household, showed so much determination and resilience. My visit to China left me with a strong desire to improve access to health care in rural areas and a great appreciation for the value of children to the future of their community.
Up to this point, I have focused on developing skills in medicine and in teaching and counseling children. In the future, I hope to utilize the skills I will obtain at the Harvard School of Public Health and through the Zuckerman Fellowship to help solve the problems in rural health care, and create programs to empower children in rural areas to improve health conditions in their own communities. It is a great honor to be a part of the Zuckerman Fellowship, and I eagerly await the opportunity to learn from great leaders of today and tomorrow.
